Walleye Stocking
The Willow Creek Sportsman's Club is committed to preserving and enhancing the outstanding fishery of the Allegheny Reservoir for current and future generations of anglers. To support this mission, 10% of every Kinzua Cup event participation fee is dedicated to the purchase of fingerling walleye from Hickley's Fish Farm. Demonstrating its commitment to conservation, the Willow Creek Sportsman's Club also matches every dollar generated through this program, effectively doubling the funding available for stocking efforts.
Once the fingerlings are delivered, club volunteers donate their time, boats, and equipment to transport and stock these young walleye throughout the Allegheny Reservoir. By distributing the fish across multiple locations, volunteers help maximize survival rates and encourage a healthy, well-balanced walleye population.
Stocking fingerling walleye plays a vital role in maintaining the reservoir's fishery. Natural reproduction can fluctuate from year to year due to changing water levels, weather conditions, habitat availability, and predation.
